Local Trail Project
It is the desire of the local biking community (and others) to establish a network of trails that will make the Colebrook Wood Lot more accessible to hikers, walkers, snowshoers, bikers, birders, and equestrians. The land is here, the trails have been started, and a bit of signage, maintenance, mapping, and usage would go a long way!
Much praise must be given to those individuals who have been establishing and using the land for the past decades--it has worn in a network of trails enjoyed by those of us in the know! While keeping this gem a secret is desirable on some levels, sharing the precious gift is rewarding also. To that end, we are looking to further refine a selection of the trails within the Wood Lot, adding signage and desginating them on a map. We're looking to identify the most 'user-friendly" trails to clean up, mark, and advertise for residents and transients to use and fall in love with--just as we have. The land is great for casual family walks, trail runs, snowshoeing, biking, and finding some solace in nature. The hardwood stand at the height of land is sight to behold through all four seasons. Beaver Brook flows through the property and avails itself to the relaxing tones of a babbling brook, opportunities to explore a forest stream ecosystem, or cool your toes on a hot summer day! The cedar bog is only accessible once the ground freezes--but the maze of available paths is worth the three season wait to get back into the dark, dense forest found in the south-eastern corner of the lot! With much to explore and see, we invite you to get involved with the development of the trails and to make full use of the network year round! |
